Still figuring this all out?
Don’t worry. We got you.
What do I bring?
A positive attitude. Comfy clothes good for rowing. Clean shoes (running, sneakers). Please bring a sweat towel and a beach-size towel if you want for off-rower work. A change of clothes or layers if you like. Socks! Water bottle and your fave pre/post workout fuel. If something is positively priceless - don’t bring it into the studio. Lock it in your car or leave it at home. Youth ages 10-18 can join Catalyst classes with permission from coaches and parental consent.
Good rowing clothes?
Think cycling, without the chamois. Clothes should be well-fitted but allow full body movement. Layers that are too loose can get caught in the sliding seat. But be YOU and be comfortable but ready to row. We are welcoming to every rowing body, and we do ask that everyone wear a top layer - no bare chests or sports-bra-only please!
Wild Oar has a nice piece on rowing gear - both outdoor and indoor - and some fun fashions!
What health & sanitizing practices are in place?
Your safety and health STILL come first! Together we sanitize every high-touch surface (namely, rower seats and handles) between athletes, and clean other equipment and spaces between sessions. Studio equipped with hand sanitizer, tissues, water refill and two unisex restrooms.
HECK YES! Scroll down and take a look at the video from the 2017 CRASH-B Indoor Rowing championship! Thousands of rowers can’t be wrong - the push can be FUN! Rowing is a rare opportunity to sit next to Olympians, elite para-rowers, kids, grandmas - all in the same pursuit of YOU pushing YOU to achieve what you never thought possible. What are you waiting for?
Is this really
gonna be any fun?
Other special
equipment?
You’ll learn quickly how to set the machine to your body and your favorite gear/fuel to have in tow. Some rowers swear by gloves, others eschew gloves. What matters is what works for you — give rowing a try or two before you decide! Some rowers will need a butt pad on the rower to position themselves properly - we can help you find a good fit. Other bodies may need minor or major adaptations for the erg - please speak up if something doesn’t feel right and we’ll work with you! We can also make adaptations for para-athletes- just let us know and we’ll team up to get you rowing!
We GOT you! Talk to a coach for tips and connections to local clubs that offer on-water classes or teams. On-water rowing is tough but whoa is it a beautiful thing to do!
